Anglican Community Care Inc was formed in Mount Gambier in 1986, with one social worker, a part-time administration officer and an accommodation support worker. Placement of children into foster care in Mount Gambier was in hand with the State Government, however, a strong need was emerging for "at risk" local teenagers to be accommodated safely in stable and nurturing environments. Together, caring individuals and government departments were successful in receiving a state government grant. The Anglican Parish Council of Chris Church Mount Gambier came forward and accepted the responsibility for auspicing the then foster care service for local teenagers aged 12-18 years. A separate organisation called "South East Teenage Care" was created. The organisation adopted a new public identify in April 2009 demonstrating a move forward and identifying the organisation as a leading service provider for rural people. Anglican Community Care inc is now referred to as ac.care. ac.care employs nearly 200 local people. More than 60,550 (FY07-08) people in the South East, Riverland and Murraylands of South Australia have been supported by us through over 760 different services that fall under one or more 7 goals: alleviating homelessness - building communities - promoting learning - reducing poverty - sharing cultures - strengthening families - supporting children

1985The South East Regional Accommodation Forum Inc. (SERAF) was incorporated in November 1985 to provide emergency or short term housing for young people in Mount Gambier. Funding obtained in 1987 and again in 1990 made it possible to cater for up to 27 people needing supported accommodation. Some of the original units are still in use today, providing accommodation for single adults with special needs. |

1993On 22 November 1993, SERAF and SE Anglican Family Support Services merged to form South East Anglican Community Care Inc. Only three months later, the South Easterners Against Child Sexual Abuse Inc joined this new organisation. From late 1996, funding for the Emergency Relief Program enabled SEACC to broaden their services to people in financial crisis. With the significant expansion of alternative care services to the Murraylands and Riverland in September 1997, Anglican Community Care Inc. was born!

2000We welcomed the new century with two important milestones: the auspicing of the Waikerie Accommodation & Support Service, and the establishment of the Children’s Contact Service in the South East. The exciting developments continued with the commencement of the Flying Start Program in the Riverland & South East regions, the opening of the Waikerie Community Centre, and the auspicing of the Minya Porlar Creche in Murray Bridge in early 2001. |

"for the first time in our history we were also able to provide programs |
Later in the same year, we could add Reconnect services to the Murray Mallee region, and the Millicent Community Access Centre and ACC joined forces to launch the Community Service Centre in Millicent.
2003
In 2003, we embarked on new territory with two GreenCorps Projects, initially run in the South East. For the first time in our history, we were also able to provide programs specific to the Riverland Aboriginal community with the Supported Accommodation for Aboriginal Youth & Young People, the Homemaker Program, and the Aboriginal Youth Development Program. After extensive lobbying, we could also start to offer Emergency Single Adult Accommodation to the South East community.
2004
2004 was another busy year with the launch of the Supported Tenancies Program in all three regions (South East, Riverland and Murraylands), Gaining Ground in the South East and the Victim Support Service in Murray Bridge. From July, we joined the Southern Country Aboriginal Partnership as lead member to provide culturally appropriate foster/respite and reunification services for Aboriginal children.
2005
Important developments in 2005 included the creation of the Community Support Centre and the auspicing of “The Loft” Youth Services Centre, both located in Mt Gambier. We were very proud to have been chosen to be the lead agency for delivering Communities for Children in the Murraylands from November 2005.
2008
The federal government announced 25 new Family Relationship Centres throughout Australia. A consortium, led by Anglican Community Care and including Centacare Catholic Family Services and Relationships Australia (SA) was been awarded the tender for the new Family Relationships Centre in Mount Gambier. These Centres provide information and referrals for all types of families at any stage of their relationships, eg, before marriage or partnering, during, separation, divorce. The Centres provide advice on parenting after separation and help parents focus on the needs of their children. They provide dispute resolution to help parents resolve conflict and develop parenting plans for their children.
Fourteen new Post Separation Cooperative Parenting services (PSCP) were also announced by the federal government. Anglican Community Care has been awarded this programme for the South East. This is the first programme of its kind specifically for regional and rural communities in South Australia. The new service is aimed at assisting highly conflicted separated parents to improve child focussed parenting
2009
Anglican Community Care Incorporated introduced a new public identity that came into effect on 3rd April 2009.

We did not change our name, rather we formalised a shortened version of our name within a new logo. It is pronounced ‘ay see care’. The aim was to diminish confusion with other organisations and the variety of ways the organisation was referred to in the community.
ac.care is a proud provider of human services to people in rural South Australia. We look forward to continuing our challenging journey and are committed to supporting people to build happy, healthy communities.

Service Excellence
Awarded March 2008
Anglican Community Care Inc has been awarded the top level of customer service from the Service Excellence Program, an award which has internationally-accredited standards. They are the first organisation to receive the highest level ‘Award’ in the region.
There are two levels of achievement in the Service Excellence program: the Certificate level and a more advanced Award level. Anglican Community Care received the Award level.
Department for Families and Communities (DFC) Chief Executive Sue Vardon said it was important to recognise those who went above and beyond in their efforts to help their clients.
“The Service Excellence Program encourages organisations to develop a culture of quality and continuous development to benefit the people using services provided by community agencies,” she said.
“The Department for Families and Communities works in partnership with such organisations to improve outcomes for clients, and these awards are part of our commitment to ensuring services are well managed and accountable to the community”.
The Annual DFC Service Excellence Program Recognition Ceremony recognises organisations for their outstanding level of customer service. Anglican Community Care’s representative, Ute Herrmann-Bullock, who managed the Service Excellence program, received the award for the work they do in reducing homelessness, promoting learning, strengthening families, alleviating poverty, building communities, supporting children and sharing cultures.
Rob Foggo, CEO Anglican Community Care said the award was the culmination of all people working in the organisation being dedicated to providing services that have a positive impact on people’s lives. ‘We are very proud to have achieved Award level and to be the first such organisation in the region to do so. Service Excellence in our sector is similar to ISO 9000 for businesses and represents continuous quality improvement across all functions; leadership and management, people, partnerships and communication and service provision.
