Bringing up Great Kids

Parenting can sometimes be challenging. It is difficult at times to understand and interpret what your child is trying to tell you (i.e. through their behaviour) and at the same time helping them to understand what you’re telling them in order to improve and build positive relationships with them.

Bringing up Great Kids is a four week program that supports parents and carers in building emotional connections with your children through:

  • learning more about the origins of your own parenting style and how it can be more effective
  • identifying the important messages that you want to convey to your children and how to achieve this
  • learning more about brain development in children and its influence on their thoughts, feelings and behaviour
  • understanding the meaning of children’s behaviour
  • discovering how to overcome some of the obstacles getting in the way of being the kind of parent you would like to be
  • discovering ways for parents to take care of themselves and to find support when they need it.

Therapeutic Parenting

Parenting children who have experienced significant trauma is different to more traditional ‘common sense’ parenting due to the high needs of these children and the different behaviour management strategies involved in supporting them and being able to have a positive relationship with them.

Therapeutic Parenting is a five week program that supports parents and carers of children who have had significant traumatic experiences to understand:

  • some of the reasons why parenting may be a challenge
  • how parents and carers own experiences impact on their parenting
  • some behaviours and reactions that children can have and what these reactions and behaviours may trigger in parents and carers
  • why a child’s behaviours are not responding to the ways in which parents and carers are parenting
  • parenting children is more stressful than anticipated

The program will provide parents and carers with tools to restore their confidence in parenting and enhance their relationships with their children.
